Stirnemann, the eliminator world champion, immediately took the lead on the first lap followed by Dutchwoman Annemie Worst. Alice Pirard came through in third ahead of Laura Metzler, Anne Terpstra, Marlo Koevoet, Britt Van de Boogert and Alicia Frank. Petra Mermans dropped off due to chain problems.
On lap three Terpstra and Metzler broke away from Pirard. Terpstra then marched on to second place. Sabrina Enaux made a late challenge for the top-five and passed Pirard on the final lap.
Stirnemann meanwhile crossed the finish line in first, more than a minute ahead of Terpstra. “I knew I was going to be strong on this technical track, but winning is never easy. On this tough track it’s essential not to lose focus. The parcours is so beautiful, I hope it will host another World Cup event”, Stirnemann reacted.
